In this workshop, we will use various sources and microphones to explore the resonances of our surroundings through feedback loops.

Resident teaching artist, Kate Siefker, will cover the primary categories of microphones and their applications, as well as what contributes to timbre and frequency response.

We will experiment with resonances created from various objects and spaces, and record their harmonics using a microphone. The recordings will then be processed using Ableton Live to create fodder for sound design and electronic music production.

This workshop is suitable for those with basic knowledge of Ableton Live.

Eliane Radigue's Vice-versa, etc. (1970) consists of microphone and tape recorder feedback
In The Wolfman (1964) Robert Ashley creates a feedback loop using a microphone, amplifier, tape recorder, and speakers
Pauline Oliveros' I of IV (1966) uses multiple reel-to-reel tape recorders "patched into each other with magnetic tape spliced in loops so that a form of 'automatic generation' system was created by feedback" - "Blue" Gene Tyranny
