Finding Words in Silence and Sound
Mar 26, 2024
Schedule: Tuesday, March 26, 2024, 6:00pm–8:00pm ET
Embodied Text is a 2-hour workshop focused on generative approaches to incorporating text into sound works, songs, or music compositions. If writing lyrics or any form of text feels intimidating, this session offers a supportive environment to experiment with new processes.
Through automatic writing, erasures (or ”thickening”) of found texts, and improvisation exercises, we'll explore intuitive ways to integrate poetry and sound. By the end of the workshop, participants will produce a short piece or sound collage inspired by either the freewrite or the erasure text, incorporating these textual fragments as ekphrastic elements within their compositions.
This workshop is open to anyone interested in experimenting with text and sound, including sound artists, musicians, poets, songwriters, etc. All skill levels are welcome, and no prior experience in music composition or writing is necessary.
The class will be recorded and made available to registered participants.
